In the digital space, podcasting can be seen as an oversaturated market. Since the pandemic, we have seen an increase in the number of podcasts, as well as the diversifying topics. What once was primarily thought of as a news medium has now become a space for anyone to share their thoughts, humor and advice with the world. 

The increase of podcasting has come with a few negatives. Many argue that some people shouldn’t be allowed to buy podcast microphones. I’m not completely opposed to this, given the red pill community. However, as a journalist, I believe it’s everyone’s right to speak their mind. So, here are some podcasts that I find lighthearted, positive and/or with great messages to their respective communities. 

First, we have Pour Minds. This podcast, hosted by Lex and Drea, has taken the internet by storm over the years with several viral clips. Lex’s bright personality and humor, mixed with Drea’s calm demeanor and signature Houston drawl, make a great combination for this show. They make taboo topics amongst women feel comfortable, creating a safe space on their platform. They cover relationships, friendship and navigating life as two Black women. They also feature several celebrity guests, making for plenty of entertaining content. 

Next is The Basement Yard. This comedy podcast is hosted by Joe Santagato and Frank Alvarez. Like Lex and Drea, these two have great chemistry, which makes for an entertaining show. They release episodes weekly covering a variety of topics, with the ultimate goal of making us laugh. Their hilarious commentary has made for several viral moments, with many more to come. 

Lastly, we have the Reign’s World Podcast. As you probably guessed, this one is my own. Born from a name I used to say at the beginning of vlogs recorded on my aunt’s laptop, the Reign’s World podcast is just that. My world. I cover how it is navigating life as a young twenty-something with a chronic illness. I focus on wellness, my fitness journey and figuring out the next phase of life as I complete my college journey. The first episode will be released soon, so stay tuned. It’s my world, and you’re just listening to it.
